Matariki

It is the Maori name for the small cluster of stars also known as the seven sisters. Matariki means the eyes of god or little eyes. For many Maori it's the start of a new year. It is a time to remember those who had died in the last year. Maori Celebrate Matariki at different times over the month but usually have a service at dawn.
